Demand for Dental Hygienists

Basic economics is about supply and demand; one cannot exist without the other, and the majority of businesses would fail without either of those elements present. However, it is important to also have a strong workforce to support the supply and demand accordingly.

As the dental industry continues to change and grow, both technologically and through making more comfortable environments to promote a more serene experience for greater customer service, the need for more trained professionals also grows. In North America, the demand for dental hygienists is at a high. « The demand for quality hygienists is stronger than ever. This demand is being driven largely by an ever-increasing awareness of the link between oral health and whole-body health, » said Jaime Geers, a registered dental hygienist at Cypress-based Sandalwood Family Dental. « The past decade has brought to light serious correlations between oral hygiene and diabetes, heart disease, several cancers and HPV. The more education we are able to provide, the more demand there is for quality service men and women to keep the ball rolling. »

This type of information is always important for those looking to either get a job as a dental hygienist, or are currently dental hygienist students or just trying to figure out a good career to get into.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career as a dental hygienist, or just want more information about what they do, never hesitate to ask your local Ottawa dental professional when you go in for your regular check up and cleaning.
