The power struggle: electric vs. manual toothbrushes

  ThinkstockPhotos-524741265

Electronic devices are pretty important to our everyday lives. Imagine your home without an iron, toaster, microwave, etc; these items make our lives that much better and we have power (in part) to thank. On the other hand, there are devices that have never required power and work just fine. The question to ask is, are electronic devices better than manual ones because they can provide an added boost of power?   Take toothbrushes for instance; does power influence the overall effectiveness of the device? The best way to approach this particular question is to look at the pros and cons of each type of toothbrush:

Manual:

Pro

– Tried, tested and true; this is how it has always been and it has always worked.

– More cost and energy efficient

Con

-May have to replace more often as they are sometimes not made to last as long

Electric:

Pro

No elbow grease required! Once you guide it correctly, the brush essentially does all of the work for you.

– Battery and rechargeable options

Con

More expensive than manual brushes

– Maintenance requires more attention (replacing brush heads, etc)

Regardless of the toothbrush choice you make it is important to remember one thing…to brush regularly! Each option carries the benefit of increased dental hygiene once done on a regular basis. If you’re still unsure of what the best option may be for you, consult with your local Ottawa dental professional.

Tips on finding the best dentist

best dentist in Ottawa It’s always nice when you are able to find something you have been looking for. Whether it be an old paystub because it’s tax time and you want to double check things, or you’re looking for your favourite pair of pants that you haven’t worn in forever. An added bonus is that when you end up finding those pants, the pockets are lined with cash! If only all things worked out like that. However, sometimes certain items, people and/or services can be hard to find.

Take dentists for instance. It may seem like an easy task to just find one because there are so many around and they all have to go through certain education to become dentists, therefore making them all qualified candidates to clean and inspect your teeth, right? Wrong! Finding the right dental professional in Ottawa can actually be quite the task. Here are some helpful tips to consider while on your quest for a dentist.

Location  Location, location, location! You have to decide on a dental office that is in a location that best suits your needs. This can mean finding an office that is close to your home and open on weekends so you can go when you have free time. Or, it can mean finding a location that is closer to where you work or go to school. In either case, finding the right location means you’ll have fewer excuses to not go.

Comfort  Being comfortable with the dentist you choose is very important; you need to be able to trust this person and be able to be fully relaxed in their environment. It can be hard to do this without actually first becoming a patient, but there are ways. Firstly, do your research on the dentists and offices you are interested in. Secondly, check for reviews from people that have had that dentist personally and see what they have to say.

Whatever decision you make, understand that it is your decision alone. Don’t ever feel the need to stay at a dental office that you aren’t comfortable in. Explore your options, find somewhere that your comfortable and enjoy clean and healthy teeth
